OEM, ODM, CRO and CDMO: choose a project scope
Choose the service by what you already have, who will develop what is missing, and which deliverables your agreement needs.

Start with the inputs
An existing recipe is not always a production-ready specification. Before calling a project OEM, check whether the formula, raw-material grades, manufacturing instructions, test methods and packaging drawings are controlled. If a partner must develop these, the agreement needs development work as well as manufacturing.
Allocate the responsibilities
ODM normally starts from a product brief and includes concept or formula development. CRO work focuses on an agreed research or evaluation question with defined outputs. CDMO can combine development, transfer and manufacturing. These terms describe scope; they do not automatically imply pharmaceutical licensing, clinical research or any particular accreditation.
Write the handover
Define who owns existing IP, new formulations, methods, tooling and artwork. State whether exclusivity applies, to which market and for how long. Agree a process for changes, failed samples, additional testing, retained samples and handover of usable data. A confidentiality agreement does not by itself assign ownership.
Working checklist
| Service | Your starting point | Define in writing |
|---|---|---|
| OEM | Controlled specification | Materials, process, release and change control |
| ODM | Brand and product brief | Prototype scope, formula ownership and approvals |
| CRO | Research question | Protocol, methods, raw data and report |
| CDMO | Development and supply need | Transfer package, quality agreement and manufacturing scope |
Use this in your project
Keep this worksheet with a project code, version and review date. Assign an owner to each unresolved item and link the response to the relevant sample, supplier document or test report. Share a concise brief through our project enquiry before transferring confidential files. The result of review determines the final scope, specification, quotation and next decision.

Project questions
Can I use this as a finished product specification?
Use it as a development checklist. A final specification needs defined methods, acceptance criteria, approved versions and responsibilities matched to your project.
What should I send first?
Send the target country, intended use, ingredient or flavor direction, preferred pack and estimated quantity. Detailed confidential material can follow through an agreed controlled channel.
